BIRDING PLUS: EGYPTPetra Extension
|
A new itinerary combining the best of Egypt's birding with some of its best-known archaeological treasures. From the lush Nile valley to the mountains of Sinai, and from the Red Sea to the Sahara, this new tour has been specially arranged to give us a fabulous mix of birding and visiting many of Egypt's most famous archeological sites. From the Pyramids, Sphinx, and Museum of Antiquities in Cairo to St. Catherine's Monastery and Mt. Sinai (where many believe Moses saw the Burning Bush and received the Ten Commandments), we continue to the Valley of the Kings at Luxor, the famed temples at Karnak, and finally to the Great Temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel. Throughout the tour, guide Terry Stevenson will be accompanied by an expert Egyptologist who is also fully aware of our birding goals. Flexibility will be the key as we enjoy both the birds and ancient marvels of this incredible land. Raptors crossing the clear blue skies, Sand Partridge, coursers, and sandgrouse; larks and wheatears in the desert; Greater Painted-snipe and Senegal Thick-knee along the Nile; localized White-cheeked Tern and White-eyed Gull at the Red Sea; Egyptian Nightjar and Hume's Tawny-Owl at dusk; and Nile Valley Sunbird, Tristram's Starling, and Sinai Rosefinch are just some of the highlights we expect to encounter.
