Brazil Nutshell date change & Costa Rica spaces
Marcelo Padua
Jay VanderGaast
Megan Crewe
We've just shifted the dates a bit earlier for our new Brazil Nutshell tour to Feb 11-25. It'll be guided by Marcelo Padua & Jay VanderGaast (both at right) and heads to fabulous Intervales, awesome Iguazu Falls, and the wonders of the northern Pantanal in a rich sampler of some of the best birding in Brazil. Read all about it in Jay's "Brazil Nuts" article in our October newsletter. And we've just had cancellations on our spring Costa Rica tour, Mar 12-27 with Megan Crewe (also at right) & local guide, so there are now 2 spaces open to head out in search of quetzals, bellbirds, Zeledonia (OK--Wrenthrush, if we must), and hundreds more!

"Discoveries & sightings" slideshow: 30 images
Remember our hummingbird slideshow from several months back that was so popular? Well, here's one of similar length with some more fun finds and gee-whizzes from Field Guides tours. Click here or on the sample images below to view it.

Cool bird news: another journey, this time Osprey
Last month we pointed you to the amazing story of a migrating Red Knot. This time? More fascinating data tracking an Osprey from Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, to French Guiana in NE South America. See more on the Cornell Lab site. And we'll have to check any Osprey we see in Suriname on our March tour more closely, just in case it's Penelope...

Colombia's rich birding perks
Get a sneak peek at our December newsletter (mailing this week) and don't miss guide Richard Webster's front page article about his new upcoming Colombia: The Cauca Valley, Western & Central Andes tour. Two departures for some fabulous endemics: Jan 15-31 and Feb 19-Mar 7. Love birds? Of course! Love coffee? What better destination could there be?

Going solo? Tours with just one space still open
Yellowstone in Winter: Jan 15-23 with Terry McEneaney (1 space)
Thailand: Jan 15-Feb 5 with Dave Stejskal & Uthai Treesucon (1 space for a single or a female participant who would like a roommate)
Northern India: Jan 22-Feb 13 with Terry Stevenson (1 space for a single or a female participant who would like a roommate)
NEW Cambodia: Feb 19-Mar 3 with Phil Gregory (1 space)

Spring fling?
If, like some of us, you're already longing for spring even as winter sets in, there's at least some hope. Do a little dreaming and, heck, even make some plans with us for a palm-studded island escape--which just happens to have a long list of very cool endemics. How? One, two, or three trips, all in a row beginning in March: Bahamas (Birds & Butterflies; Mar 21-26) and then the Dominican Republic (Mar 26-Apr 2), both with Jesse Fagan, and then Puerto Rico with George Armistead (Apr 2-8). In toto? Two-weeks-plus of birding fun in the sun.
