A peaceful Gaspe scene.
by guide Dan Lane
Our Gaspé Peninsula trip offers a delightful combination of experiences:  wonderful boreal landbirding, an unforgettable seabird experience, beautiful mountain and coastal scenery, and fine French cuisine.  There's really no other place quite like it.

Located in the French-speaking province of Québec, the Gaspé is bordered to the north by the Saint Lawrence Seaway and to the south by the Baie des Chaleurs.  With its variety of habitats, the peninsula offers some of the best summer birding in the Canadian Maritimes.  The rugged Chic-Choc Mountains, the northernmost outpost of the Appalachians, teem with nesting warblers, flycatchers, thrushes, and finches and are also home to such large mammals as Moose, Black Bear, and a relict population of Woodland Caribou.  Four hours east of the park, along the Gaspé's beautifully sculptured shoreline, are the famous cliffs of Bonaventure Island, where tens of thousands of Northern Gannets, Common Murres, Black-legged Kittiwakes, and other seabirds nest.  We easily rate Bonaventure as one of the premier birding experiences of North America!

In the course of our trip we'll visit virtually all the habitats of the Gaspé and see many of the Northeast's most interesting birds.  Highlights we'll look for include Ruffed and Spruce (rare) grouse, Black-backed Woodpecker, Razorbill and Atlantic Puffin (rare), Gray Jay, Boreal Chickadee, Olive-sided and Yellow-bellied flycatchers, Swainson's and Bicknell's thrushes, Philadelphia Vireo, 20 or more species of warblers (including Bay-breasted, Blackpoll, Cape May, and Mourning), singing Fox Sparrows, and several northern finches, including one or both species of crossbills.  In addition to its abundant birdlife, the Gaspé is also known for its variety of rare plants and its spectacular and unusual geology.  We hope you'll join us for a great trip.
