Our arrival point is Paro, where the Paro Dzong overlooks the small town. A “dzong” is a fortress-monastery. Dzongs continue to be religious centers and also function as administrative offices. Many mid-elevation valleys like this one are in rain shadows, and the birding is limited, but most everything is new.
