I must admit to being biased about Chile: I was born in Chile and recently wrote the Field Guide to the Birds of Chile. However, tour participants (and I didn't have to bribe them) have told me that Chile is perhaps the most scenic birding trip they have been on. Maybe they were saying that just to make me happy, but I tell you...it is true. The most famous panorama people associate with Chile is Torres del
Paine, in the Patagonian part of the country. Glacial "flour" produces the milky green color of the lake, and a happy coincidence of glaciation, uplift, and volcanism produced these oft-photographed mountains.
