Many birders, particularly those who have been traveling internationally for some time, associate this bird most closely with Chile. It is the Diademed Sandpiper-Plover, a plover that has a thin and down-curved bill like a sandpiper. Chile is indeed the best place to see this rare and handsome shorebird, and we make sure we have some backup spots just in case! However, after a tour to Chile you will remember much more than this little shorebird, and you could easily pick any number of fantastic species to associate with Chile, as well as amazing scenery or superb food or great wines. Hey, I had one participant who raved about the great birding and the clean bathrooms. She mentioned that nowhere in South America has she seen such consistently clean bathrooms. So join us on our next trip, to see condors, sandpiper-plovers, and clean bathrooms!
