LAST SPACES NOTE
Only two spaces remain open on our Mar 20, 2016 departure.
NOTE: We'll have full details about this new tour in this space soon. In the meantime, we have an abbreviated description below. If you would like to hold a space at no obligation until the itinerary is finalized and online, please contact our office to do so.
This new tour takes us back to endemic-rich western Panama and adds some tropical island birding. Both sites we'll visit are new destinations in our schedule and offer an exciting cross section of birding from cloud forest to lowland rainforest and coastal Caribbean waters.
Tranquilo Bay is located in the Bocas del Toro archipelago, a tropical paradise surrounded by lush, humid rainforest, sandy beaches, coral reefs, and lagoons. This luxury ecolodge has six comfortable, spacious cabins within the forest (some with ocean views) and deliciously prepared local meals. It is also a birding paradise, with more than 200 species on site and nearly 500 possible when we include off-site excursions. We will be on the lookout for Lattice-tailed Trogon, Blue-throated Toucanet, Three-wattled Bellbird, Snowy Cotinga, Golden-collared Manakin, and Nicaraguan Seed-Finch, among many others. Offshore we will scan for boobies and Red-billed Tropicbird.
Our second site is located in the cooler Chiriqui highlands, where a short but adventurous 4x4 excursion will bring us to another premier ecolodge. With comfortable rooms and a restaurant that serves Asian and European cuisine, we will eat, sleep, and bird well. Within the bromeliad-draped and moss-covered oak forest, we'll be on the lookout for Resplendent Quetzal, more bellbirds, Black Guan, Fiery-throated Hummingbird, and White-throated Mountaingem as we target many of the Chiriqui highland endemics.
This itinerary offers a comfortable pace with just two sites, a unique and diverse bird list, pleasant accommodations, and delicious food, all against memorable backdrops.
