Field Guides leader: JESSE FAGAN

“The trip was wonderful in all respects.  The leaders, John Rowlett and Jesse Fagan, obviously loved birds and enjoyed people. The Dolan Falls setting was super!  The experience was superior to the other two companies I’ve been with.  For my next birding destination I’ll check out Field Guides’ offering first!”  J.V., TEXAS HILL COUNTRY 2007

Jesse Fagan has been passionate about birds since his teens when he had an encounter with a flying Pileated Woodpecker.  He later moved from Savannah, Georgia, to Texas for graduate school and spent seven years birding its various regions.  He has led trips for the Texas Ornithological Society to California and North Carolina, as well as local trips in the Pineywoods and Hill Country.  Within the US, he has also birded throughout the Southeast, dabbled in the West and Southwest, and searched for owls in Minnesota.  Since 1995, Jesse has been studying the birds of El Salvador and Honduras.  He is a research associate with the group SalvaNATURA in El Salvador, where he has worked with wintering Golden-cheeked Warblers at Montecristo NP.  In 2005-2006 he co-led birding trips to Honduras.  He has also birded in Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, New Zealand, Spain, and Sweden.  Since his first Virginias’ Warblers tour with us in May 2006, Jesse has co-led Field Guides tours to Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Lesser Antilles, Texas, and Quebec’s Gaspe Province.  He holds a B.S. in mathematical sciences and an M.S. in mathematics from Texas Tech University.  Prior to working with Field Guides, he taught mathematics at the university level.
