Field Guides leader: NED BRINKLEY
“I’m glad I finally tried Field Guides, and I’ll recommend you to anyone. I really enjoyed Ned Brinkley’s knowledge, patience, and the way he treated everyone equally.” R.K., OAXACA 2005
Ned Brinkley is a native of Norfolk, Virginia, where by age six his birding set roots equally in southern warblers of the Great Dismal Swamp and in the Gulf Stream’s pelagic birds. In the subsequent 36 years, he has birded and led tours on five continents, but his enduring interests lie in the avifaunas of the high latitudes, of oceanic islands, and of the pelagic zones, from Iceland to Macaronesia to the Caribbean to the Antarctic. Since 1981 he has organized and guided pelagic trips and terrestrial field trips, and since 1995 he has worked as a professional bird guide alongside stints as professor of literature and film at the University of Virginia, co-owner of a birding bed-and-breakfast inn on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, editor-in-chief of North American Birds, and author of several books, including a children’s book on birds in the Reader’s Digest Pathfinders series, Virginia’s Birdlife: An Annotated Checklist, and The National Wildlife Federation Field Guide to Birds of North America, published in April 2007 by Barnes & Noble.
